Marriage and Madhuri Dixit

I feel good, I'm excited: Madhuri Dixit

She was the darling of the masses, the lithe dancer with the megawatt smile. And when you ask Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit about her much talked about marriage to Los Angeles-based doctor Sreeram Nene, all she does is act demure. "What do you want me to say?" she says, when you prod her on how she feels. "I feel good. I'm excited, but it's not like my life has changed drastically already."

In true Bollywood fashion, the 34-year-old actress tied the knot with Nene at a simple ceremony in the US on October 17. The news was held back until yesterday, when the actress' secretary announced the same to the film industry. "It was an arranged marriage," Rikku Rakeshnath, the actress' secretary reveals. "And she's certainly going to continue acting," he adds, dispelling all speculations that Dixit will give up her career following this move. Not even a fortnight since the big day, Dixit is back from her "short but sweet" honeymoon in Hawaii, to shoot in Mumbai. Filmistan Studios in Andheri was packed with visitors and Bollywoodwalas who dropped in on Friday to wish the actress who was shooting there.

Despite the celebrations and the good wishes, several film industry personalities have expressed their concern over the actress' career, following her marriage. Only a few years ago, Sridevi put a full-stop to hers when she tied the knot with producer Boney Kapoor. And Juhi Chawla became persona non grata when she disclosed that she was married to industrialist Jai Mehta. More recently, Kajol has not been signed on for any new films (besides one, to be produced by her husband) after her marriage to co-star Ajay Devgan.

But Dixit has clearly ruled the roost in Bollywood. But filmmakers who had cast her in their forthcoming projects are expressing their doubts. "She's a swell performer, but I worry that audiences might not accept her as a leading lady anymore," says a prominent director.
There are Dixit loyalists too. And thankfully, they far outnumber her detractors. "It's not fair to expect that she will go on working forever. The industry should join in her celebrations and offer her mature roles that do justice to her age and her calibre," says a filmmaker.
And although she may not be offered girl-next-door parts which require the usual running around trees, let's hope the actress finds a place here that merits the huge contribution she has made to the Hindi movie industry.

Why is everyone surprised? I had to get married some day : Madhuri

Throughout her long career, Madhuri had been involved with only one leading man- her Saajan co-star Sanjay Dutt. But even this had been a non-starter, what with Sanjay's divorce (from the now-deceased Richa Dutt) not having come through, and his subsequent jail sentence under a TADA offence. Madhuri's career started with Abodh in 1984, and included such smash hits as Tezaab, Tridev, Ram Lakhan, Saajan, Beta, Raja and Hum Aapke Hain Koun?
At last it’s official. Madhuri Dixit, screen icon has tied the knot with Los Angeles-based Dr Sriram Nene. Madhuri’s secretary Rakesh Nath ‘Rikku’ said the marriage took place on October 17 at Madhuri’s brother, Ajit Dixit’s house in LA.

The actress is now back in Mumbai, after honeymooning in Hawaii. She says she will settle in the US and will act only in worthwhile projects. She was also heard saying, Why is everyone surprised? I had to get married some day.”
Born and brought up in America, Dr Nene is a Maharashtrian. The marriage had all the trappings of an arranged marriage. The horoscopes were also matched before the match was okayed.
It is learnt that Madhuri’s brother and the groom were great pals. It was at a dinner at Ajit’s house that the surgeon proposed to Madhuri. Rikku says the wedding was conducted according to Vedic rites with only family members attending the ceremony.
The ceremony was followed by a sumptuous vegetarian lunch of Shrikhand puri and masale bhaat. Madhuri’s two films, Boney Kapoor’s Pukar and M F Husain’s Gajagamini are ready for release.
Though some producers were heard complaining, Rikku quickly appeases them saying, She will complete all her films and will shuttle between LA and India. Meanwhile, we hear M F Husain, has been admitted to the Breach Candy hospital for some viral flu. Sources say, he is recovering and is expected home soon.
While doctors insist it was a mild flu, methinks it was case of heart break. But the poor old man pulled himself up and said, It’s the greatest news. At least she has married without breaking anyone’s house which is what normally happens in the industry. I did sense that she was going to marry but didn’t think it would be so soon.

I am feeling on top of the world : Madhuri

Probably the most sought after heroine in Bollywood, Madhuri Dixit disappointed hordes of fans all around the world when she announced her marriage to LA-based cardiac surgeon Dr. Sriram
Nene. After tying the knot in utmost secrecy last month and spending a romantic honeymoon in

Hawaii, the actress decided to make the announcement public. Though Madhuri is back in town for the shoot of Yeh Raaste Hain Pyar Ke and other schedules. She will settle down in the US, but not without honoring her commitments and is reportedly said to be open to worthy offers. " I am feeling on top of the world," gushed the newly wedded actress, " I have never been so happy in all my life." Gossip mongers are still not willing to give in and are busy finding flaws in the Nene's marital bliss. Madhuri fans will have to do with her two forthcoming releases Pukar and Gajagamini for a while, till she decides her post-marriage films. Madhuri Nene, formerly the Dixit Dame who ruled the hearts of the Indian male, has returned to Mumbai after a ten-day-long honeymoon with brand-new hubby Sriram in the Hawaiian isles. All to await the release of her completed films Gajagamini and Pukaar, and to fulfil "all other prior committments" before calling it a day and returning to the States. The lady's secret marriage to the US-based doctor, made public only a couple of days back, had taken everyone in the industry (and indeed all over the nation) completely by shock at its suddenness. But it was not very surprising, especially as the lady had always expressed her desire to settle in the US. Mainly because Madhuri's whole family was already settled in that country. And also because of the anonymity she enjoyed abroad, far away from the multitudes of fans in India who never let her have a moment of privacy. Details of the lady's marriage ceremony are slowly trickling in. It was a family-only affair, with the only outsider being Madhuri's long-time secretary Rikku. And the post-wedding lunch was a purely vegetarian affair with shrikhand puri and masale bhaat.

I have never been so happy in all my life : Madhuri

MUMBAI: All roads led to Andheri on Saturday evening and abillion hearts skipped a collective beat as one of India's icons of the millennium finally introduced the saajan who had stolen her dhak-dhak dil.
It was the night to beat all nights as Madhuri Dixit threw a glittering wedding reception to introduce her real-life hero, Dr Sriram Nene. Suave, polished and sophisticated, it was easy to understand why this NRI had won the ``million-dollar- smile'' sweepstakes, vanquishing millions of wannabe contenders.
And there was far more curiosity about this unveiling than that involving a newly discovered Rembrandt (or Husain, if we are to get contemporary). It was at this much-awaited wedding reception that her friends and fans finally got to meet the LA-based surgeon whom she had married in the US on October 17.
The marriage, reportedly arranged by Madhuri's brother Ajit Dixit, was held according to Vedic rites at the latter's home. Attended only by family and close friends, news of the wedding had come as a surprise to many. After the wedding, Madhuri and Sriram had taken ten days off to honeymoon in Hawaii, no doubt thrilled that they had managed to shake off the paparazzi. It was only on her return to Mumbai on October 27 that the news was let out.

When Madhuri spoke to this paper on Friday, she didn't seem to be overly nervous. ``I am very excited,'' she said. ``Tomorrow, the world will see Sriram. I can't tell you how many people have been calling to ask me what he looks like, what he's all about. Now they can finally see him.''

On Saturday, her friends and fans got their first glimpse of the doctor, who looked dashing in an off-white churidar kurta with a long-sleeved jacket heavily embroidered with zari. Madhuri was a radiant bride, dazzling the guests with her million-watt smile. Wearing a copper- and-peach coloured ghagra choli designed by Reza of Anja Saan, with a matching copper-coloured kundan around her neck, Madhuri Nene and her doctor seemed smitten with each other.
Her former co-stars, rivals and film-makers were all there in their glittering costumes. The invitees' list read like the Who's Who of the Indian movie industry. The guest list also included chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Bal Thackeray, his son Uddhav, nephew Raj, and a large assortment of politicians besides film personalities. Among those spotted at the function were Amitabh Bachchan (with son

Abhishek in tow), Dilip Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha, Anupam Kher, Sanjay Kapoor, Karan Johar, Salman Khan, Feroze Khan, Hema Malini, Naghma and Namrata Shirodkar. Shilpa Shirodkar was seen receiving guests at the entrance.
